We believe, like the Monks of New Skete, that the development of a puppy is not an automatic process, but rather a dynamic unfolding of life. Each puppy is unique; each is an individual. We therefore follow their teachings regarding puppy development from birth to when the puppies are placed in their new homes. It is our hope, that their new guardian is their best friend who also believes in these same teachings. The following is a short synopsis of the program we follow. Stages:
According to Dr's. John L. Fuller and John Paul Scott, puppies go through four stages on their way to adult personalities. The Neonatal Period - from birth until they open their eyes. The Transitional Period - from when their eyes are open until their ears open. The Socialization Period - approximately three weeks to twelve weeks of age. The Juvenile Period - from twelve weeks of age until sexual maturity (six months to a year or more.) The timing of early experiences plays a vital role in the development and shaping of behavior.
